10 Things You Should Know About Me

9. I am originally from California.

Though I've lived in Colorado for over six years now, I still miss the Central Coast of California now and then. I miss the Oak Trees and the emerald-green hills. I don't miss the ocean much, as I have traded it for the rolling Arkansas River...where there is nothing that will eat you if you fall in. (Total shark phobia.)

Mostly, I miss my family. I keep in contact with my parents and siblings as best I can, which is why, every so often, my sister (Katie) will be posting on this blog as well. She is 2X more fabulous than I am, and she lives in the LA area, where they don't think a "wedge" is a construction tool.

Hope you're having a fantastic weekend!

I totally stole this look from Ashley at Nashville Styled. I hope she doesn't mind, because I didn't ask. Isn't that what style blogging is all about? Idea theft? I hope so.

10 Things You Should Know About Me

8. I hate confrontation.

It's been fun finding new locations all over my (very small but historically rich) town to take photos. Like today, we went over to the old prison warden's house, which was built in 1901. I so wanted the house to be open because there were bannisters and secret doors all over the place. But alas, it was not. And then we got yelled at for being on "State Property", whatever that means, by a prison guard in a tower. There were no signs anywhere, I tell you. We only scaled a wall and hopped over barbed wire to get on the premises...just kidding. There was no barbed wire involved.

You know you're wearing a nice outfit when a 14 year-old kid says, "You look very nice today." And we're talking about a pretty rough middle-schooler, here. It was a very nice complement. I'll take it. (You should pretty much take any complement you can get from a middle-schooler.)

10 Things You Should Know About Me

7. My mom says my thighs are "muscular".

As you can probably see, I am not a supermodel. When the whole "skinny jean" thing came out, I shuddered. I still don't really like the idea of making what's below my knees look even smaller than it does in a nice boot-cut silhouette. So, I will definately be embracing the "wide-leg" trend...as soon as it hits the Goodwill.

I have had this shirt forever, and I give complete thanks to Tania and Kendi for showing me how to wear it. Again - I never would have done this. It may seem simple and unadorned, but this is a big stretch for me.

There is only one, small head-on shot for this one because my forehead looks huge. If this long hair is going to continue (which it is until I have 10 inches to donate), then I might need some bangs. Thoughts?

10 Things You Should Know About Me

6. I love weekends.

There is nothing in the world that I love more than to wake up on a Saturday morning with nothing to do. I love lazy days, and if I get more than three things accomplished in a single day, I feel good about myself. Today, I ran two errands and made my husband lunch before 1:00 - and I call that success. I even dressed up to run my errands, which a bonus.

I do love this shirt, even if the kids say that is makes me look like an "escaped convict." I was going for Parisian...and that's why I don't take fashion advice from 11-year-olds. Well, that and I'd be wearing a duct-tape belt, which I'm not about to do.

It has been severely windy here lately, and this is my go-to hairdo for windy days. I just learned how to do the inside-out braid on myself. Hard! Not to mention you still get little flyaways...sigh.

10 Things You Should Know About Me

5. There is very little I won't try.

Barring hard drugs and exceptionally dangerous feats (no thank you, Gore Canyon), I will try just about anything. Like this pink shirt, for example. Never in a million years would I have seen myself wearing this shirt, but I have been given courage by the likes of Kendi and others. This outfit has been a while in planning, but I think I finally pulled off my own version. It's not quite color-blocking, but at least I paired a pencil skirt, a skinny belt, and a bright shirt. I am proud of me.

I even wore heels to school today, which is considered a dangerous feet (pun intended) by any teacher.

Ten Things You Should Know About Me

4. My husband is amazing.

I am married to a wonderful man who is also, dontcha know, a great photographer. We met seven years ago when he hired me to be a raft guide trainee. As soon as he walked out to meet me, I knew that having him as a boss would be trouble. And trouble it was...four years later I made him mine forever.

We also have two adorable dogs, Peanut and Sydney, who you will no doubt meet later. Between my family, my husband, and my furry little kids, I have a lot of love in my life.

This is my favorite school outfit ever. I bought these boots after seeing them on pretty much every style blogger, and I've never looked back. I feel like I'm channeling Tania from What a Nerd Would Wear. Such a copycat, I am.

10 Things You Should Know About Me

3. I love to be outside.

If you are one of my five followers (thanks, guys), you probably know that I haven't posted in a few days. Well, that's becasue I wore the same outfit for two days running, and it wasn't very pretty. I wore boots, a pair of old Levi's, and an orange shirt. Oh, and a baseball cap. But one day I did wear some cute earrings! I was rafting and playing outside with my horses, which isn't really conducive to heels and pencil skirts...though I may have a surprise for you in the coming days. (Thrifting with Amber really paid off!)

Most of the time, my outfits are centered around teaching apparel. Hopefully, one of these days I will go / do something fabulous and will wear something equally stylish. I guess rafting doesn't count...you never see Keens on the catwalk.
