Just Another Day in Paradise

Let's be honest: I'm not all that creative with outfits. So when I find a piece of clothing that is creative enough for the two of us, I snatch it up.

I dont' usually shop for clothing on e-Bay, because you just never know...(yes, sellers, you should disclose stains or an unusual fit). But when I saw this skirt for only $8.00, I had to get it. It turns out that the designer is a fancy shmancy Italian one, Massimo Dutti, and the skirt would usually be a lot more.

So I got it. And I love it. And the people (i.e. kids) love it, too. What more can you ask of a skirt?

Can You Love a Skirt Too Much?

If you can...this is the one I love. It's a size or two too big, but I usually compensate by wearing a long t-shirt over it. But I was inspired by Keri over at Headlines & Hemlines, where she wrote about her love of the white tee. I figured I could make it work for me, too, and this is the result.

Since we are moving classrooms and basically winding down at school, I thought it was a suitable casual outfit. It totally was. Hope you all are getting ready for a fun-filled summer...I know I am!

I've been waiting patiently to use this phone booth for a shoot. It was fun. Too bad the phone didn't actually work. Did you ever think you'd see the day when a public phone would be a novelty? Yeah, me niether.

Pretty Dressy for a Monday

Only when I pick them out ahead of time do I have the presence of mind to wear a skirt and high shoes on Monday.

I got this shirt at Dressbarn which, I think is kinda older-ladyish (no? yes?), but I was looking for school dress-code-appropriate camis and there it was. And it has sat in my closet for about seven months. It is making its debut thanks to this fabulous belt that I got at the Goodwill this weekend. I think they go together like peanut butter and jelly. The whole outfit makes me want to have a garden party. Also a little old-ladyish...I swear there's a 20-someting inside of me that hates that we had to grow up and wear teacher clothes. She still wants to go clubbing.

I committed a thrifting faux-pas and bought these shoes even though they look a lot like a pair I already have. But when I put them on, they felt like sliding my feet into silk stockings, the leather is so soft. It would have been criminal not to buy them. Criminal!

Who, Me? Elegant?

Kids can be cute. We were talking about adjectives today, and how words are more powerful when you pick the most descriptive one. One example that they looked up in the thesaurus was "pretty", because it's over-used. When I asked them to give a synonym for the word, one young lady said "elegant". I asked her to tell me the difference between just plain pretty and elegant. She said:

"It's like how you dress for school, Mrs. Sack. You always dress up and stuff...but you're not, like, too fancy."

That is awesome. I'll take it. A 13-year old just called me elegant. Best. Day. Ever. And then I ran a mile with them during track practice, so please excuse my slightly greasy (how unelegant!) hair.
